The Kakinuma Group is strengthening its presence with the acquisition of Namura restaurant in Geneva this June. Located on Rue de Saint-Jean, the restaurant now offers an enhanced culinary experience, guided by the same commitment to authenticity, precision, and respect for the ingredients, within its iconic setting designed as an immersion into Japan’s Edo period.
Established in Eaux-Vives for nearly twenty years, Kakinuma has become one of Geneva’s leading references for Japanese cuisine. Rooted in a family philosophy, the group champions cuisine that remains true to its origins, founded on respect for the seasons, the quality of ingredients, and omotenashi — the Japanese art of hospitality.
The acquisition of Namura is a natural continuation of this philosophy. The partnership came together seamlessly, as both establishments share the same vision: sincere cuisine, exceptional ingredients, attentive service, and an experience shaped by simplicity and elegance.

Continuity at the Heart of the Project
The Kakinuma Group’s ambition is clear: to preserve Namura’s identity while supporting its gradual evolution in a way that remains faithful to its history and spirit.
“When we discovered Namura, we immediately felt a genuine connection with our philosophy. This restaurant has a strong identity, built with passion and authenticity. Our intention is not to transform it, but to help it grow while respecting its history, its team, and its guests. We want Namura to continue building on everything that defines its quality, while gradually bringing our own sensibility to it.”

An Immersion into Japan
A true invitation to travel, Namura is renowned for its distinctive décor inspired by traditional Japanese aesthetics. From the moment guests enter, a gateway opens onto a bamboo garden, a tea house, and a koi pond.
Inside, the atmosphere draws inspiration from Japan’s Edo period, combining antique screens, traditional prints, and calligraphy-adorned lanterns. Low horigotatsu-style tables offer the experience of floor seating while providing comfortable recessed space for the legs.
This peaceful environment naturally extends the culinary experience. Open to guests from Tuesday to Saturday for both lunch and dinner, the restaurant offers a traditional menu showcasing some of the great classics of Japanese cuisine:
- A selection of traditional sushi prepared with impeccably fresh fish
- Charcoal-grilled dishes
- Japanese sukiyaki hot pots
- A selection of the most iconic specialties from Kakinuma restaurant on Rue Henri-Blanvalet, including Wagyu beef, tempura, and more
An Evolving Team
To ensure continuity, Chef Kiyomi Sasaki remains in the kitchen, continuing the work that has built Namura’s reputation.
In the dining room, Grégoire Deschamps, currently at Lion d’Or in Cologny, is joining the team to further strengthen the guest experience and service.
The project is also supported by Tadashi Mimura, chef of Kakinuma restaurant on Rue Henri-Blanvalet, together with Kohei Kakinuma, who uphold the spirit of the house: authentic hospitality, generous cuisine, and respect for Japanese traditions.
